Overcoming Idea Block
Finding motivation in 3 easy steps.
The ever elusive idea. It is a staple in scrabooking and rubberstamping. However, many of us find ourselves staring at a blank page or card wondering what are next step should be. Well I have a solution for your idea block.
Copy, Copy, Copy
It is ok to copy a layout or card sample from a book. However, instead of copying the project exactly start by changing the theme. After choosing a new theme chose one part of the project that you will change. It may be as simple as changing the shape or size of a particular element.
Once you are comfortable changing the theme and one elements you can graduate to the next step. Start changing two, then three, and so on until you have taught your brain to think outside of the box.
Steal, Steal, Steal
No, I don't want you to do anything illegal. What I want you to steal is one small idea from a non-scrapbooking/rubberstamping source. By leafing through interior decorating magazines or even just family circle you can find color schemes and embellishment ideas. Take those ideas and turn them into a scrapbook layout or card masterpiece.
Shop, Shop, Shop
Browse the Hallmark and Carlton cards at your favorite store. From these cards you can find ideas, color schemes, sayings, and so much more. Don't be afraid to use your cell phone to snap a quick picture so that you don't for get the idea.
So, you have my premission to copy, steal, and shop to your hearts content. That is as long as you make sure you take the time to sit down and enjoy your hobby by putting those ideas into projects. Also, don't forget we are always busy making new projects for you to copy here at Scrap'n Nook. Check the store and the website monthly for new projects.
